Let The Tastes of Winter Fill Your Dinner Table

With the first day of winter upon us, one of the very best things about cool winter nights is being able to gather around the table and share stories or memories while delighting in the savory tastes of winter. There are so many rich, seasonal foods to complement the warmth that is created indoors when the temperature outdoors continues to drop. We’ve gathered a collection of recipes that will help you create the perfect mood whether you’re making a romantic dinner for two or having some of your favorite people over to share a meal.

First, we’ll start things off with a winter charcuterie board, where you’ll be able to serve a variety of hors d’oeuvres with something for each of your guests. Combine a selection of hearty cheeses, such as smoked gouda, soft blue cheese, or brie, paired with crackers or thin slices of baguette. Don’t forget a selection of nuts, dried fruit and fresh fruit, such as pomegranate, for color. Olives are a delicious Mediterranean addition, as are roasted red peppers or smoked meat. The beauty and simplicity of this cheese board means you can prepare it in advance and spend more time with your guests.

You’ll find the perfect cocktail in this recipe. It’s festive, colorful and contains cinnamon, the quintessential cool weather spice. Make a big batch to share with friends and cozy up indoors. Cheers!

Ingredients

  • Coconut Oil
  • Sprinkles
  • RumChata
  • Kahlua
  • Ice
  • Cinnamon

Instructions (makes 4-6 servings)

  1. Rim your glass with a tablespoon of coconut oil and dip in sprinkles
  2. Get out your blender and add 3 parts RumChata and 1 part Kahlua
  3. Add a cup of ice and blend
  4. Pour into your glass and sprinkle a teaspoon of cinnamon

Finally, your guests will swoon over the main course, Roasted Butternut Squash Risotto. This recipe, courtesy of cookieandkate.com, is a treat because it doesn’t requite risotto’s typical extended period of time spent stirring the rice over & over again. With hearty brown Arborio rice and seasonal roasted butternut squash baked in the oven, you have the perfect combination of sweet and savory.

We’ll leave it to you to select the perfect dessert. Maybe a dark chocolate flourless cake, an apple crisp or peppermint brownies? Enjoy all the tastes of this new season and drink a toast to good times with friends. We wish you the best in this cozy season of winter!
